The Journey to my Finalized Research Project

To get to my finalized research project, I’ve gone through many obstacles, to say the least. After summer ended, I came into the class with the idea of wanting to do my research on something related to criminal sciences and justice. After the first few weeks of more research to clearly figure out what I wanted to do, I came across an article on the CSI effect. This topic really intrigued me, so I started doing more research centered around it. After a while, I wanted to switch to a different topic due to a lot of research already done on this one. This time I decided to do research on serial killers and their body language and behaviour in interviews to hypothesize their motives. When I felt like I was on the right track, I realized finding methods for this type of research was very hard. But I tried to look at as many sources and databases as I could to stick with this research topic. When I was struggling to decide whether to keep looking for methods or switch to a new topic, Mrs. Dobos and Mr. McBride suggested that I talk to Mr. Paul, the criminal justice teacher. Our discussion opened a new field of interest that I wanted to research. Taking suggestions from them, I decided to start researching the topic of media representation vs. TV shows depiction of crime. Finally, through researching and narrowing my ideas, I arrived at my current research project. Analyzing Miranda rights in the TV show Criminal Minds was my approved project.
